The Golden Globes are watched as much for their fashion as they are for the awards given out.  The lovely gowns, hair, makeup and endless amount of jewels were flaunted on the red carpet along with one accessory each star had in common – a smile!

Here are our favorite smiles from the red carpet (surely they thanked their dentists!):

Paula Patton, who starred in last year’s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol glowed on the red carpet.  Our favorite accessory: her genuine, glowing smile!

Sofia Vergara from TV’s Modern Family looked stunning in this navy dress by Vera Wang.  Her coy smile on the red carpet added a bit of mystique to her look.

Sofia Vergara’s co-star Julie Bowen is giving off a radiant smile in this photo!  You can easily tell this is a real smile due to the lines that form around her eyes.  Julie has a lot to be smiling about– Modern Family took home the Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Comedy!

Rooney Mara, Golden Globe Nominee for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo simply looks bored in this photo.  A smile would have surely made Rooney appear more enthusiastic on the carpet!

Alternatively, Piper Perabo looks positively radiant in this photo.  Rooney Mara should take a few lessons from Piper.  Look at how great her smile looks!  Piper truly seems to be enjoying being on the red carpet and showing off the smile her dentist gave her.

Viola Davis, star of The Help looked stunning in this maroon gown, and her teeth also looked sparkly white!! Here’s a tip to make teeth appear whiter: Wear a dark red shade of lipstick.  It usually does the trick quite well– Viola Davis’ smile couldn’t be any brighter.

If a monkey can do it…

They say if a monkey can do it, you can too.

According to the National Geographic, Long-tailed Macaque monkeys in Thailand not only floss their own teeth but they also teach their young to clean their teeth.  Even without a dentist reminding them that they must floss daily, Macaques living near a Buddhist shrine in Lopburi, Thailand pull out human hair and use these strands as floss.  When they’re not pulling human hair they are known to use coconut fibers and twigs for floss.

Here’s a video clip showing these Macaque monkeys flossing and showing their young how to floss:

So if a monkey can do it, why don’t you?  Did you know that if you don’t floss you miss cleaning 35% of your tooth’s surfaces?  It’s essential that you floss at least one time a day to keep the spaces in between your teeth clean.  If you’re unsure how to floss properly, you can find a dentist on DentistUSA to ask them to teach you flossing techniques.

Do you floss every night?  What brand dental floss do you use?

Beauty Queen Dentist

I have a lot of friends who find going to the dentist, let say, not so enjoyable. My assumption is that their dentist isn’t a beauty queen who is competing in the Miss USA 2012 pageant. However, there are a lucky few in Virginia who are probably trying to find reasons to see their dentist. That’s because their dentist is Catherine Muldoon, Miss Virginia 2012. That’s right a beauty queen AND a dentist!

Muldoon had an exciting 2011. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, accepted a job with Konikoff Dentistry in Virginia and then won the title of Miss Virginia USA 2012 on November 5th. In June of 2012 she will represent Virginia in the Miss USA 2012 pageant. How does she plan on juggling all the added responsibilities?

“I’m not entirely sure how much time I’ll have to commit to being a part of the Miss USA pageant, but I’m determined to make this work while still maintaining my career,” said Muldoon. “I feel like if you have one or two priorities, you can manage your time wisely.”

I’m sure we’ll all be rooting for Miss Muldoon to win Miss USA. I can’t think of a better representative for the U.S. than someone who is pretty AND a dentist… come to think of it, I can’t think about a better representative for the universe.

If you are not lucky enough to have a beauty pageant winner as your dentist, not to worry. There are tons of great dentists just a click away on DentistUSA!
